This is a short list (okay, really short for an area as large as Piedmont), but friends and family usually stay with us so it’s not our biggest priority.
That said, we have a few favorites: Hotel Langhe is a stone’s throw from the house and we’re very good friends with the owner. It’s within walking distance of the old city-center, the parking is free, the rooms are well-decorated, breakfast is included, and there’s a pool.Β
Fontanazza is located in the small, wonderful town of La Morra. Four rooms are located above the superlative-inducing restaurant of the same name. Breakfast, parking, gobsmacking views and pool included. This makes for a great hub if you’re here to immerse yourself in all things wine.
Lastly, our great friends have a roomy AirBnB on their property (soon to have another next door, too) that is separate from their main house. A gorgeous terrace overlooks small towns, hills and vineyards. If you’re looking to get off the grid, this is your place. By car, you’re about 25-minutes from Alba, 15-minutes from Asti’s ancient city-center, and every cute town in between. Monica and Michelle are very special people and get a lot of return visitors every year.
And, if you can’t reserve their guest house (they’re almost always booked), there’s Maurice and Yolanda’s bed and breakfast down the hill, Sotto La Vigna. This is not a compromise; their property is gorgeous and includes a saltwater pool, sauna, etc. Plus, they’re lovely.
If you are looking for recommendations farther afield (say a beach vacation along the Ligurian coastline, the northern lakes, or Dolomites) please don’t hesitate to ask. We too take vacations, you know.
